Hearts and Craft

If you are looking for a simple and effective way to share the love this Valentine’s Day – this craft project is for you. Perfect for all ages (with a little scissor help needed for the youngest crafters) you will be filling your home with unique and beautiful Valentine’s hearts in no time.

Equipment needed:

These hearts make beautiful window decorations, giving you the opportunity to turn you whole home into a haven of love. Try making hearts in different sizes and colours so you can arrange and group your hearts for maximum effect.

Want to create a Valentine’s surprise for mummy or daddy? Try cutting out colourful hearts and sneaking them into places where they won’t be expected – inside a workbook, on the bathroom mirror, or even under their pillow.

If you want to create a card using the heart you make, simply choose a complimentary colour of card and fold it so it’s the right size to stick your heart on the front. You can either back the heart with a contrasting colour or stick it directly onto the card. Either way don’t forget to write a beautiful message of love inside.

Parent tip:

If you have more than one child creating hearts, try letting them choose their own paper colour so everyone gets to find a unique way to show their love. Remember hearts don’t just need to be red – they can be any colour of the rainbow!

Step 1:

Using your pen or pencil, mark out a heart on a piece of paper. Parents can help here if it’s a bit tricky to get it right.

Step 2:

Cut out your heart around the line you have made.

Step 3:

Fold your heart in half 3 times, first down the middle from top to bottom, then across from side to side, then one last time down the middle.

Step 4:

Take your scissors and cut shapes out of the edge of your folded heart. (This is just like the technique you may have used to make snowflakes at Christmas). Make sure you keep most of the folds in place so your heart stays in one piece.

Step 5:

Once you are happy you have cut out enough, carefully unfold your heart and see what you have created. Your own unique design that you can give to someone special this Valentine’s Day.

Repeat as many times as you like in all of your favourite colours. Fix to your windows or walls and make beautiful arrangements of hearts (just make sure you can remove them afterwards without causing any damage).
